We are delighted to announce that to this day another country we are helping to is Ghana. The main goal of Shoes4life is to provide help to the ones that need it. Therefore, we expanded our help to Ghana without hesitation. Ghana is unfortunately famous for its child labour at the cocoa plantations.  During the last few years, according to the U.S. Ministry of Labour, it was found out that almost 40 % of the workers at the plantations are children aged 5-14. Shoes4life is strictly against such a policy! Therefore, we decided to focus on Ghana. Even you can help to improve lives! Donate and share the feeling of joy!

Ghana is a state in the western Africa. Its northern neighbour is Burkina Faso, on the east it is Togo, on the west Ivory coast, its southern coast is washed by Gulf of Guinea. Despite the fact that Ghana is on an African scale a richer state, most of the children in Ghana is forced to work on a cocoa plantation from the age of 5-14. The peasants live in poverty themselves as growing cocoa is not the most lucrative field imaginable. And these exact reasons force them to hire the cheapest work force possible, the children. Sadly, some of them are even being kidnapped from neighbouring countries, mostly from Mali and Burkina Faso, to slave at the plantations.

If we put aside the unacceptable fact that the workers are kids, it is important to emphasize that they don’t even have any proper working conditions. Therefore, they are forced to do such a work in completely insufficient conditions, with no working shoes, breaks from work, work safety guarantees and others.

Following these scandalous information Europe and the USA reacted quickly with few campaigns aiming to cocoa producers, mainly companies Nestlé, Hershey and Kraft Foods to strictly distance themselves and to not take cocoa in production of which any children took a part. In connection with this “Fair trade” products that ensure the customers that children did not take any part in production of such a product and that the producers were provided with an adequate reward spread rapidly around the whole Europe and the USA.

And exactly these are the reasons that lead Shoes4life to decide to help this country as well.
