The Czech association of fotball players supported children from an African orphanage in Rwanda thanks to its charity company Sport United, o.p.s. Thanks to the cooperation of partners Puma, Urban Store and DIC a project was created, which purpose was the delivery of shoes and booties to children in orphanage Kigarama (meaning „Hope“) in Rwanda.

The orphanage Kigarama is located near to the border with Congo and is run by a German charity organisation L’Esperance.  The purpose of the orphanage is to provide a substitute „home“ for children from Rwanda. Children are provided in the orphanage witha complex care and the education, which is so much needed there. 120 children from age 3 to 21 are situated in the orphanage, who are divided into co-called families.  Each of this family has maximum of fifteen children.

African Rwanda is one of the poorest countries in the World. Due to lingering civil war in the country, there is a dire economic situation and also persistent conflicts, which are causing a long-term instability in the country. The project was therefore carried out in one of the local orphanages, because the help is most needed there.

The whole delivery of more than 120 pairs of shoes in the form of an excessive cargo plane was the first hard exam for the participants of this project, but the cargo was delivered to the destination safely and without problems to the orphanage Kigarama.

The children were waiting for their shoes and booties there. Every child in the orphanage obtained one pair of shoes, which they use daily also during sports activities organized by the orphanage.

The famous Czech football players and officials of ČAFH Karel Poborský and Horst Siegl added to the consignment also a recorded motivational football message – Greetings to the children in Africa, in which the famous players wish them a success and happiness in their lives.

The successful project reminded again, that even such obvious thing such as shoes, is not available to everyone and that any help like this is of a great significance in Africa.
